Many men have come forward and claimed that the Bible speaks of many instances of UFOs. However, it does not specifically use the term “Unidentified Flying Object,” but there are some interesting occurrences which when used in conjunction with the UFO phenomenon, does seem to fit together very well. Now, some of these occurrences do not appear to be extra-terrestrial events at all and we must take a closer look at what these authors would have us believe are examples of a UFO events.Firstly, we must define exactly what we are talking about so we do not get mired in semantics. UFO simply defined is an Unidentified Flying Object. This means it is an object in the sky which is unidentified; it does not necessarily mean that it is from another planet. We must remember that many of the men in the Bible described objects in the sky to the best of their ability. They only had their currently known technology to compare them to.
We can liken their descriptions to the descriptions used by UFO witnesses of today, when they claim to see a saucer, or cigar shaped object. It does not mean that they saw a saucer, or a cigar flying through the sky, but that was the closest object that they could liken it to.
Now that we have that out the way, we must now define aliens. Aliens are simply beings which are not from this planet and come from another place whether it is from space, another planet, or another dimension, either way they are not of this world. Now, there have been a lot of sightings of these beings in the Bible, and if you are not sure what I am talking about, do not worry, I will get to that.
The first place that many UFO enthusiasts will take us to is the book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament. This is one of the most touted examples of a UFO encounter, but I do not believe this is the case. You see, Ezekiel prefaces the sighting saying that “Heaven opened up and I saw visions.” As I read Ezekiel there seems to be no place where Ezekiel begins to speak in the real world. I know it sounds like the greatest example of a UFO in the Bible, but it must be physical in nature to count.
However, there are other examples which are very fascinating and while they do not explicitly describe them as UFOs we can use our knowledge and extrapolate as to how we would describe them today. At the birth of Christ it is said that the wise men were following a star. However, this was indeed an extraordinary star in that it did not act like one.
Now we must put ourselves in the shoes of these men. They see a very bright object in the sky and they have decided to follow it. To them it would appear to be a star, or at least that is the only object in the sky that they can associate it with. This particular star led the way for these wise men for over a period of time. And when it brought these men to their destination, it hovered above the very spot where Jesus was laid. Most definitely this bright object in the sky would indeed have been interpreted by us to be a UFO.
In the book of 2nd Kings in The Old Testament we have a very interesting event. The Prophet Elijah was getting ready to, for lack of any other word, be abducted. In the air above appeared what could only be described by Elisha as a “Chariot of Fire with Horses of Fire.” Now, it is very difficult to extrapolate from his description as to what it might be familiar with in today’s world, regardless it was not of this world.
However, you might consider that it is possible that it was one big very bright light flying in formation with smaller very bright lights which would account for the horses. Remember, since this vehicle is a conveyance, the closest thing they can liken it to be a chariot and horses.
He further goes on to state that Elijah was taken to the vehicle in the air by what appeared to be a whirlwind. Now this whirlwind is an interesting way to be brought forth into an airship and seems to be more like a tractor beam. Myself I liken this to a UFO of an extra-terrestrial nature and the classic earmarks of abduction as described by those that claimed to have witnessed, or have been the victims of such things.
We must also consider the events of Revelation. While many of the writings of the book of Revelation are spiritual in nature, there are some events which seem to be very physical in nature. At one point we have an angel flying in the heavens declaring the Gospel of the Kingdom so that everyone on the earth can hear it. Whenever I read this I have a picture of a being flying in some sort of ship with some kind of voice amplification device. Just a thought and I could be wrong, but it is interesting none the less.
One thing which has been troubling me is that many Pastors and churches are teaching their members that UFOs and alien beings are demons and tricks of Satan. However, we know that Jesus is supposed to come down from the clouds, which tells me he is coming from space. I am of the belief, although not dogmatically, that Jesus and the angels are the extra-terrestrials that we are looking for. How will the world react when they see these beings heading towards earth? It will be utter chaos and every ballistic missile from every nation will be fired at the intruders.
However, it is not likely that the war would end there because Jesus is headed to Jerusalem. Once in Jerusalem to claim the Throne of David, it is not likely that the world will accept his rule and that is where we get Armageddon. I know it sounds crazy, but it is one way in which people can be deceived and prophecy hold true as to how the Messiah will return, and what events must occur. Like I said it is just a thought and I am not dogmatic. However, we must keep an open mind and watch as events unfold.
